2010 U.S. Home Renovation Energy Tax Credit
Installing an energy efficient Overhead Garage door has numerous advantages, most notably that the door will save its proud owner significant money in reduced heating costs in coming years. The federal government of these United States has seen fit to offer further incentives to those among us that make the environmentally friendly choice to purchase an energy efficient garage door. The reward for installing a qualified door is 30% of the product purchased, with a maximum of $1,500 in TAX CREDIT. Several restrictions do apply to the awarding of the credit.
To determine whether or not your garage renovation qualifies, take a look at the following resources:
- Amarr Garage Doors offers an extremely useful Frequently Asked Questions page about the Tax Credit
- Richards-Wilcox has issued the following list of facts regarding the new law:
- The tax credits now apply to qualifying purchases through the end of 2010 (previously: 2009)
- The tax credit now equals 30% of the product purchase (previously: 10%)
- The maximum credit for qualifying purchases is not $1,500 (previously: $500)
- The applicable years are now 2009 and 2010 (previously: 2006, 2007, and 2009)
- The required U-factor is now .30 (previously: .35). (Note: If someone purchased a qualifying door between January 1, 2009, and February 17, 2009, the required U-factor is still .35, since that was the requirement at the time.)
- These changes are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (see Recovery.gov.) The Act changes provisions in the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008, signed into law by President Bush on October 3, 2008.
